As of October 2015, you will be required to have SIP Firmware revision 4.01 or higher to utilize all current system features such as Auto Provisioning.

You can check your phones version by logging into the main screen of the web browser or by restarting phone and watching the initial startup screens.

If you do not have Polycom SIP version 4.01 or higher, you will need to do the following:

  1. download a free TFTP SERVER from Solarwinds at:  www.Solarwinds.com.  You will find it under Free Downloads and called Trivial FTP Server. (Do not download the STFTP version).

  2. Install the TFTP Server. It will create a folder on your hard drive called: TFTP-Root  where you will load files for updating the phone. You will also need to verify or create a Firewall rule in windows to make sure port 69 (UDP) is open for at least the private. When installing, windows may have added the program to the firewall  allow list, but possibly not.

  3. Go to the Polycom Software matrix to view the software revisons at :  http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sip_sw_releases_matrix.html. You can toggle this page between Sounpoint and VVX. It will list all the models along the top. Use the column of that model to determine what the software revisions apply to your phone. For this procedure where we will update the BootROM, choose the Combined package. When you have chosen, click the version on the far left column to download. It will come to a screen for license acceptance. It will typically mention to make sure your BootROM is updated before continuing with a link to the updater. You should down load this updater and extract the zip file. Then accept the license and download the SIP software, then extract it from the zip file. You will now copy the entire SIP software and folders to the TFTP folder. From the BootROM updater files, copy only the "bootrom.ld" file to the TFTP server folder.

  4. Go to your File Exporer and look for the TFTP server folder "c:/TFTP-Root". Look for the "Config" subfolder and copy these two files into the root folder. They are reg-basic.cfg and sip-basic.cfg. Now go to the root folder and edit the "sip-basic-cfg" file. At the:  voIpProt.server voIpProt.server.1.address=""    put in the ip address of your TFTP server (Your PC IP address in most cases) between the quote marks:  voIpProt.server voIpProt.server.1.address="10.1.1.5" for example and save.

  5. Now edit the: 000000000000.cfg file and make sure this part says this:   <APPLICATION APP_FILE_PATH="sip.ld" CONFIG_FILES="reg-basic.cfg,sip-basic.cfg" and then save.

  6. Go to your Phone and press the menu button. Choose Settings. Choose advanced and enter password (default is 456). Select Admin settings, Network configuration, Server and edit with the IP address of your TFTP server. Remove any user or password entries so its blank. Select ok and then go back until it asks you save and reboot. At this selection the phone will reboot and look to the TFTP server to update its BootROM, reboot and then update the SIP application.

  7. If all is succesful, your phone will be fully updated. You can either use our Auto Provisioning server to put the configuration back in if lost or manually put with the web browser.
