This can cause the SIP device to appear to ring at times, yet there are no calls originating on the Strategic Voice Solutions network.
This issue can arise when a Masquerading NAT device does not masquerade the phone/ATA SIP port number and instead listens on its public interface on the native port of the SIP device connected to the private interface of the NAT/router. In some cases, hackers may detect the phone responding to SIP invites and may send a large volume of calls in an attempt to break into what appears to be a SIP server. There is little security risk in this situation. The simplest way to resolve the issue is to change the default port number the phone/ATA listens on to a port that is not well known for SIP. An example would be to change 5060 to 5555.
